At the end of 2023, with a small group of exiled Chinese activists, we founded the China Rainbow Collective (CRC) — a project that comes straight from our hearts and our struggles.

We created CRC because the reality inside China has become devastatingly clear. Since around 2016 the government has implemented an increasingly repressive legal environment restricting civil society organising and fundraising from domestic or international sources. At the same time LGBTQ+ organisations have increasingly been viewed as illegitimate. LGBTQ+ activists in China can no longer safely work to  to improve the lives of queer people. CRC is working closely with grassroots groups and individuals to find simple, practical ways to get through this difficult time—supporting each other, staying connected, and slowly building strength for the future.

Right now, we need to raise €200,000 to keep CRC alive and growing.

With these funds, we can support over 25 grassroots NGOs, create 75 trainings and campaign events that build resilience and solidarity, and continue doing research and international advocacy that keeps the Chinese LGBTIQ+ movement visible and strong.

The Situation is Urgent

Since Donald Trump’s administration took office, global funding for LGBTQ+ rights has dramatically decreased — and Chinese grassroots groups are suffering even more.

Many of the projects CRC supported — doing life changing community organizing, critical research, and United Nations advocacy — are at risk of elimination without immediate action.

Today, we’re inviting you to be part of our community — a community that refuses to let fear and oppression have the last word.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being someone we trust to walk alongside us.
